About us

Leading the charge in cancer prevention and survivorship since 1982.

Researchers in laboratory

The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) funds research focused on how nutrition and lifestyle affect the prevention, treatment and survival of cancer. Since our founding, we have committed more than $110 million to grants and research in an effort to help improve public understanding of the link between cancer risk and lifestyle.

Our panel of world-renowned independent experts from across the globe reviewed decades of evidence to develop our 10 Cancer Prevention Recommendations. Using these recommendations and the latest evidence-based information, AICR develops reliable resources and materials that health professionals can use to help their patients and clients make important lifestyle changes to reduce their risk for cancer and other chronic diseases.

Our resources are used by health professionals across the country for 1 to 1 patient education, conferences and events, and as educational materials in waiting rooms, community centers and hospital resource centers.

Around 40% of cancers in the U.S. are preventable. While no one can guarantee a life free from cancer, we aim to show the public that it’s never too early, and never too late, to make diet and lifestyle choices that protect us from cancer.
